Shiva and Shakti
There is a legend that initially a human being used to be the complete bisexual and was equal to Gods. But since he lacked higher consciousness his power was dangerous and the Gods decided to separate the two halves: the man and the woman. Since then instead of craving to become equal to Gods, the halves started looking for each other in order to become complete again.
The merge of the male and female has the sacred meaning since the ancient times. It was berhymed in Sufi poetry, reflected in Dao Ying and Yang symbol, Tibetan Kalachakra Icons, Shri Yantra built, where the red triangles are the male energy and the blue ones with their tops down are the female energy embodiment. The female triangles are one more, which means the predominance of female energy in nature bringing the skewness, which engenders endless movement and development. The process of the halves separation and their reunion is embodied in the main Tantric mantra (of Tibetan and Indian origin): Om Mani Padme Hum, where Om is the Absolute, Mani is the male, Padme is the female and Hum is their creative union.
Shiva and Shakti are the male and female personifications inTantra. Many tantric couples call the other half Shiva or Shakti during the Tantric rituals. This means that the partners do not see each other’s personalities, but the great male and female embodyments – a God and a Goddess. This gives to their relationship a ritual touch, creating the atmosphere of mutual worshiping and spirituality, which is the true Tantra.
Shakti in a tantric couple is the source of endless creative power, flexibility, spontaneity, beauty, youth and charm. She is the main ‘container’ of the couple’s sexual energy. That is why for a woman practicing Tantra it is so important developing her sexuality, being able to maintain the high level of sexual interest and sexual energy in herself and her partner.
Shiva is the embodiment of concentration, the responsible and goal oriented, leading and controlling part of the couple. His objective is to lead both to development and reaching the common goal. This role is displayed equally in Maithuna (tantric sexual intercourse) and in all other aspects of life.
If one of the partners is spiritually more developed, then the Master –Disciple relationship is settled. If both partners are of relatively equal level then in order for them to succeed on the Tantra path of spiritual transformation, they would need a tantric coach.
Both partners have to pay a great attention to developing their gender’s best qualities from the very outset of the couple’s Tantric Path. This helps to fulfill their destiny, opening up their energies to the maximum using the highest development potential of the couple.
However it is important to remember that the highest Tantra goal is realizing the unity of male and female energies in yourself bringing back your divinity and become equal to Gods.
Sita Ram yoga ritual helps balancing the energies of the right and the left – male and female body halves finding the inner harmony and becoming all-sufficient.
